Salzata is the highest located of the Seven Rila Lakes. It is also the shallowest after Fish Lake. It is located 1,370 meters north-northwest of Vazov peak. Its altitude is 2,535 meters. The area of its catchment area is 0.18 sq. km. The water surface area is 7 acres. Its water volume is 15.0 thousand.
The maximum depth is 4.5 meters. The lake is considered to be the beginning of the German River, a tributary of the Struma River. In the recent past, the lake was called Bash gol.
The lake is named "The Tear" because of the transparency of the waters, which offer deep visibility.
