About 2 hour pleasant drive from Sofia brings you to a open lift. The lift takes you up to the hut named “Rila lakes” where the actual hike begins. First you climb a rather steep slope to reach a plateau from where you already see three of the seven lakes. Walking along the plateau takes you to the Kidney-lake. If you do not feel like going further you can remain here and enjoy while the others go further to the Ezeren-peak (2550 m) from where you see all the seven lakes. The climbing is not as difficult as it looks and you can always stop and go back, so give it a try. The views are nothing short of spectacular.

The Seven Rila Lakes has been on my bucket list since the previous time we visited Bulgaria (2018), but our itinerary never allowed us to see it. Now I am so happy that I could finally do the Rila Lakes hike. Everything from the ski lift and the hut was well organised and working. Toilets in the hut was exceptionally clean, but make sure you have cash to use it. The hike had some steep climbs and I heard a few complaints from my children. But the views and the amazing nature did not disappoint. The Rila Lakes was even more beautiful than the photos I have seen and after every steep hill there was indeed impressive scenery to reward you.

Without a doubt in the top 5 of the most beautiful places in the country! Anyone with walking skills is welcome to visit!!!

We loved the hike and the views of the lakes. We took a different route going up and coming back and it was worth it. There was some snow when going up passed the lakes. I wish we had more time to hike and also to sit and contemplate the beauty of the place!

An extremely beautiful place. One of the most beautiful natural sights in Bulgaria. The transition is not so easy, especially for people who lead a sedentary lifestyle. But it's a must-see for everyone. The nature, the lakes and the atmosphere are amazing!!

You must visit this natural phenomenon to feel the emotion of the experience!
